Born in 1908 in England, few stories are more sad than that of the beautiful Hilton conjoined twins. The lovely girls were very talented singers and for a number of years made money as a novelty act, even sharing the same stages played by Jack Benny, Bob Hope and other celebrities after a business move to the United States. And, for a while the girls earned about $4000 a week. But, the girls became a virtual slave to one bad manager after another who stole their money and only left them in bad financial condition. And, although the girls could play many musical instruments, along with their singing talents, they eventually fell out of public favor. Sadly, the marriage of one of the twins was rejected in 21 states because of a marriage to a man to two conjoined women, and a later marriage attempt that was largely a publicity attempt, soon ended in just days. The public was angry at the marriage that quickly ended, seeing it as a total publicity sham only hurting their public image. Then, sadly in 1969 the twins caught the Hong Kong flu. becoming very ill. Daisy died, and her death caused systemic poisoning and death to her sister Violet as well in what was determined to be two to four days. Police eventually found the girls laying dead on the floor of their simple North Carolina apartment dead and nearly broke. Only a donated burial gave the girls some final dignity.
