One of the very greatest bluesmen you may have never heard of is Sidney “Guitar Crusher” Selby. The 82 year old bluesman started out his career working in the cotton fields of North Carolina and later as a singer in his local Baptist church. He soon was known as the singer with the “big voice”, and by the early sixites released a few obscure singles including, “Itch With Me”, which appeared to be an attempt to create a catchy R&B single much in the same vein as later dance craze more popular hit singles like “The Twist”. But, real popularity seemed to evade this great performer in the United States, however over in Germany this dynamic performer managed to find a big market for his music where doing live shows and recording cds has given him the respect he deserves as a great performer. Much like Jimi Hemndrix who had to seek popularity in England, Sidney “Guitar Crusher” Selby has found a trove of fans who love this incredible blues performer.
