NBC has managed to put themselves back in the drivers seat of network ratings, thanks to the monster ratings of the Summer Olympics. Friday night NBC captured a record 40.7 million viewers for the opening ceremony, the best ever ratings for an opening ceremony. And on Saturday, Olympic prime time coverage of several actual events topped out at a staggering 28.7 million.

NBC should likely ride high on the Olympics until mid August, and then will try a new strategy of giving several shows including GRIMM a head start on the September Fall season. NBC will launch some new shows as well, and wrap up AMERICA’s GOT TALENT with their big build-up to that championship.

How much of the audience that NBC can hold onto from the Olympics until September is anyone’s guess, but NBC is attempting to make the most of this running start.
