PORTLAND, OREGON’S PUNK MUSIC DETAILED IN NEW BOOK BY MARK STEN

Portland, Oregon author and music Mark Sten has detailed the peak years of the once flourishing punk music scene in his brand new book, “ALL AGES: THE RISE AND FALL OF PORTLAND PUNK ROCK 1977-1981. The huge soft bound book is currently in limited edition printings, and will be in rather limited supplies until the second printing, but it it an awesome catalog of some amazing talent in the Portland area that were often backup local acts for national and international punk acts including The Dead Kennedys, The Dils, Black Flag as well as other acts. Locally, Portland produced some very talented punk scene guitarists including Greg Sage and Jimi Haskett. and some memorable vocalists such as Rozz Rezabek, a former boyfriend of Courtney Love. Some musicians had been involved in the punk scene since their teens, where some clubs were open to all ages as music venues.

Mark Sten’s large book is a very impressive catalog of photos, posters and information about the golden age of the Portland’s punk scene which was a decent rival to the larger Los Angeles and Seattle punk scenes. This book is required reading for any serious music historians out there. Rozz was/is a good deal more than “a former boyfriend of Courtney Love,” but I’m still excited for this book and glad to see your review.

    Best,
    One who was there

I noted that he was a memorable vocalist. He’s very talented and a very polished performer. He could kick his leg all the way over a mikestand as well, as he was a very magnetic stage presence as well.

Yes, to all of that. There were few things I enjoyed more during my time in the PDX music scene and business than watching Rozz perform.

I think Rozz was and continues to be a real legend in the Portland music scene. A very great performer who certainly more national success!

Again, we’re in wholehearted concurrence. Throw in that he’s a genuinely nice guy whom I have been proud to call friend for 30+ years, and you and I will become a mutual admiration society. 🙂
