Many Americans would be surprised that the NFL, which is a $9 billion a dollar industry, actually has been granted nonprofit status by Congress. Amazingly local and state tax dollars are regularly used to upgrade football stadiums, at the same time that this industry is also exempt from antitrust laws regarding it’s television broadcasting rules as well. But, finally a number of members of Congress seem willing to support legislation that would change this and treat the NFL like any other huge business, and stop the taxpayer subsidies to this mega industry. Even the NFL Commissioner is highly paid, earning a $29 million dollar a year salary.
What are your thoughts here, Wizbang Pop readers? Should your tax dollars go to subsidize a $9 billion dollar a year industry?
