George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie Zimmerman, avoided up to a 5 to 15 year prison sentence and a felony charge by pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge in her perjury trial on Wednesday. Before a bond hearing for her husband, she moved around large chunks of money and falsely claimed to be near broke in order to get a reduced bail amount for her husband in a scheme the two might have worked out while George Zimmerman was under arrest. Under the plea deal worked out with the prosecutor, Shellie Zimmerman will spend one year on probation, 100 hours of community service and have to apologize to the judge for her role in this scheme to appear broke in order to get a reduced bail amount. Her husband was later found not guilty in a murder trial in which he shot an unarmed 17 year old who was walking home from 7-11 after a fight broke out between the two. Zimmerman had a previous assault arrest back in 2005 when he was arrested for a drunkenassault on a police officer, however his father, who was a retired judge might have had some role in getting that serious felony charge reduced down to some time in an alcohol abuse program for his son.
