It may seem like a subtle thing, but Google has decided to upgrade the status of the Palestinian Authority territories to that of Palestine. It is just another small but significant step that comes only one year since the United Nations decided to upgrade the Palestinian Authority into a non-voting observer status. Israel’s government has questioned Google’s move, and has previously stated that only negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority are an acceptable path towards any eventual goal of statehood for the Palestinian Authority.
Part of the problem of any Palestinian state is that the area is split into two land areas, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The Gaza Strip is under the control of the more radical Hamas leadership and the area has been responsible for numerous rocket launch attempts into Israel compared to the West Bank with the more moderate Palestinian Authority
