American International Pictures, a smaller movie production company found great success with the beach films at one time. These beach films with the two stars, Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon made the company a lot of money and helped to bring younger customers to theaters than the other major film companies. This company seemed to have two major shticks, one being low budget horror films and the other, beach movies. The company figured out that a 19year old male was their target customer. Eventually, Filmways and MGM bought out the American International Pictures catalog where the films have become something of cult appeal features these days.
Annette Funicello was a popular icon of the childhood of many Americans. Her death is a sad reminder of how cruel the march of time is. She will be greatly missed by so many who loved her.
