India’s First Sports Car

India is now producing their first ever sports car, the DC Design Avanti(no relationship to the Studebaker Avanti). The impressive looking Indian sports car has sharp bodylines and has scheduled production figures of 300 units a year planned for 2013 and 2014. Powered by a four cylinder Ford engine much like the same one used in the Australian version of the Ford Falcon, the engine is turbocharged, and provides adequate, but not overwhelming, 265 horsepower, torque and performance. A Honda-based V6 is planned for later production that will deliver a much better 500 horsepower. Mated to the dual clutch 6 speed manual transmission, the 3440lb. car still moves along at a 0-60 clip of just under 7 seconds, which is just fine by Indian standards, compared to most of the cars available there like the Nano, the world’s cheapest car.

The DC Design Avanti was one of the stars of 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo, and is priced to sell at around 3 million Indian Rupees, or around $55,000 in U.S. dollars.

If you love curry, then you might like this car too!
