Paul McCartney fronted a reunion by former surviving members of Nirvana at last night’s Hurricane Sandy 12-12-12 benefit concert. Dave Grohl was back at his old job on drum,s while joined with former band-mate, Krist Novoselic. This was just one of many highlights of this massive all-star concert event opened by New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen, and then by Jon Von Jovi. But, heavyweight legendary British acts later took over including Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd and Paul McCartney. American acts Alicia Keys and Kanye West also filled out this incredible concert schedule.
Paul McCartney performed many of his greatest hits both as a solo artist and as a former member of The Beatles, while The Rolling Stones and The Who also performed some of their legendary greatest hits as well. Roger Waters performed a big production version of an excerpt from THE WALL album.
It was an incredible concert, if not the greatest concert ever held, even surpassing Woodstock for the incredible level of talent. The event will likely raise millions of dollars for hurricane relief efforts.
Mick Jagger noted how so many British stars expressed their love for Americans here and implored the crowd that if Britain ever needs help for Americans to do the same and repay the favor. Got you, Mick. I’m sure Americans will. British musicians also stepped up big-time after 9-11 for a benefit that also included Paul McCartney and other top British acts.
Nice to have such good friends “across the pond”, huh?
