Kathie Lee Gifford’s Musical Closing

Harsh critical reviews as well as lukewarm ticket sales are forcing Kathie Lee Gifford’s Broadway musical, SCANDALOUS, about 1920’s evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson to close early. Gifford tended to use her position as a host on THE TODAY SHOW to defend her play, by claiming that audiences “were enjoying themselves”, denying the reality of unhappy critics and audience members both. But, Kathie Lee Gifford’s alternate reality world eventually got smacked hard by the reality of sharply slowing ticket sales as fewer and fewer persons wanted to pay good money for a bad play, only forcing the show toward an early closing. Some critics were a little less harsh though, where one simply blasted the play not as completely awful, but rather just “generic and dull”.
