SUICIDEGIRLS: The Business Of Goth Centerfold Girls

SUICIDEGIRLS.Com started back in 2001 in Portland, Oregon from a desire to by founder Sean Suhl “just to see hot punk rock girls naked”, but has grown into one of the greatest Internet business success stories for soft core centerfold photography. Portland, Oregon has always had a long background in the punk rock scene, with even stars like Courtney Love once living in the area when she had a relationship with Ross Rezabek-Wright from Theater Of Sheep. Portland’s fertile punk scene led to many young women adopting outrageous goth looks that some found appealing in a perverse way, with body piercings, tattoos, and sometimes sort of evil looks that had an erotic appeal. It only helped to provide a willing talent pool of outrageous looking young women willing to pose for unusual centerfold photos that were nothing like your dad’s PLAYBOY Magazine.

As SUICIDEGIRLS.Com grew, operations eventually moved to Los Angeles from Portland. And, the Website went through a little dark period during the Bush Administration fearing that the Website could fall victim to a John Ashcroft or Alberto Gonzales Justice Department obscenity crusade. But, the Website survived with no legal problems and still continues to this day as the leading site for goth and punk girl centerfold photography.

The popular site has become a cultural phenomenon with news, celebrity interviews, and even an Indie radio program. Who could have ever guessed that the desire to see a few punk rock girls naked could become such a big business?
