Famed Composer Marvin Hamlisch Dead At 68

Award winning composer Marvin Hamlisch has died following a brief illness at the age of 68. Although his theme from THE STING became one of most recognized hit singles back in the 1970’s, the composer wrote themes for many more films including, “Nobody Does It Better”, sung by Carly Simon for the James Bond film, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. The song was a huge hit, spending three weeks at #2 on the pop hit singles charts.

While many 70’s musicians had trendy looks, Marvin Hamlisch had a distinctively nerdy appearance by contrast that sometimes made him the butt of jokes on SNL and by some comics, although he was a greatly respected musical genius.

Marvin Hamlisch also composed the music for THE WAY WE WERE as well as many more films. He will greatly missed as a true legend among movie composers.
