33 year old Chinese Air Force pilot and astronaut Liu Yang became China’s first woman in space today as China successfully launched the three person Shenzhou 9 space capsule to dock with a small orbiting station in space. The small space station is about 1/6 the size of the larger International Space Station, but the first step toward the deployment of a larger orbiting operational Chinese space station planned for 2020.
You have to really admire the courage of any woman to be propelled into space on any vehicle that’s made in China. That takes real guts! And those Chinese space food rations are sure funny, an hour later you’re still hungry. But, seriously China has to be very proud of their great technical achievement here, becoming only the third nation on Earth to launch manned space missions.
