Patti LaBelle is a diva who gives divas a bad name. You might remember a few months ago when her bodyguards allegedly man-handled a West Point Cadet in an airport for looking in the general direction of LaBelle. Now the Grammy Award-winning singer is being sued for throwing cusses and water at a toddler in a New York apartment building after criticizing the toddler’s mother’s parenting.
The Patti LaBelle lawsuit is being brought by Kevin and Roseanna Monk who live in the same apartment building that LaBelle lived in last fall while she was performing on Broadway in musical ‘Fela’. Apparently, one day, both Roseanna Monk and Patti LaBelle were outside the building at the same time on November 11, 2010. Monk was struggling with some luggage and let her 18-month-old child take a few steps away her. According to the lawsuit, LaBelle chastised the mother for letting her child step away from her. When Monk told LaBelle that how she handled her child was none of her business, LaBelle cussed her and threw about half a bottle of water at her and her child.
Actually, the lawsuit says she went ballistic, throwing the water bottle she was holding at them and launching into a profanity-filled tirade. The child started crying, the mother said something to LaBelle and LaBelle then charged at Monk and tried to hit her.
According to the Monk’s lawyer, Roseanna Monk had asked LaBelle for an apology and a donation to a children’s cancer charity. However, LaBelle refused and so the lawsuit was filed. The suit asks for unspecified damages. The Monk’s state the lawsuit is to teach Patti LaBelle that ‘even a diva can’t attack and frighten and assault regular people in the building’.
I guess Love Don’t Live there Anymore!
