Caroline Kennedy made a trade with ABC that if they wouldn’t air the made-for-TV movie about the Kennedy’s starring Katie Holmes then she would release tapes her mother had asked to not allow released until 50-years after her death. ABC took the deal and not the Jackie Kennedy Onassis tapes are to be released. Read more about it below.
I know a lot of people love the Kennedys, but really, how smart is it to promise to release explosive Jackie O. tapes in exchange for a network not airing a Katie Holmes movie? Like anyone would watch a movie about the Kennedys starring Katie Holmes? Now that such a big deal has been made out of that movie, everyone is curious and it was released on BBC anyway.
The Jackie O. tapes were made with historian Arthur Schlesinger. The recordings were made shortly after the assassination of Jackie Kennedy’s husband John. F. Kennedy and have been sealed in the Kennedy Library in Boston with the explicit instructions from Mrs. Kennedy that they not be released until 50-years after her death.
But they are being released because her daughter, Caroline Kennedy, decided it was better to have Jacqueline Kennedy’s own words heard as opposed to some made-for-TV movie that no one would have watched anyway.
The tapes are being described as ‘explosive’ with revelations that Jackie Kennedy Onassis has affairs with the likes of Hollywood star William Holden and Fiat founder Gianni Agnell in revenge for John F. Kennedy’s numerous liaisons with whoever he might have been having liaisons with at the time.
It also reveals that she thought John F. Kennedy’s vice-president Lyndon Johnson was behind his assassination in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963.
Is that all that will be revealed from the Jackie O. tapes? I guess we’ll have to wait for them to be released to find out. But it really makes me wonder how bad the movie was if Caroline Kennedy thought this was a fair trade-off.
