I don’t know about you, but House is one of my favorite shows on Fox, or for that matter any other network. So, the million-dollar question today is this: Would you watch an 8th season if it didn’t include the character of Dr. Lisa Cuddy, played by the inimitable Lisa Edelstein?
The internet is a-buzz today with the news that Lisa Edelstein has not been able to reach a contract agreement with Universal, the producers of the smash television hit House, and therefore will not be a part of the 8th season next year.
Presently, Edelstein makes $175,000 per episode, which isn’t exorbitant by any stretch of the Hollywood imagination. The problem, however, is Fox Television demanding that the show cut its licensing fee to networks. This has caused Universal to cut its expenses, the easiest to manage, of course, is talent salary.
So, how much of a part of the show is the Dr. Cuddy character for you? Does the on-going insanity between her and Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) keep you tuning in, week after week? Would the show be as interesting to you without her character?
This may all be a moot point. Hugh Laurie, now a producer on the show, has indicated that no matter what happens—or has happened with Lisa Edelstein and Universal—the 8th season will be the show’s final season.
Would there really be a point to one more season if it didn’t include Dr. Cuddy? Should Dr. House just finally do himself in once and for all in this season, thereby ending all speculation about an 8th season? I’m certain there will be plenty of developments over the coming weeks!
