Revolver Magazine’s 3rd Annual Golden God Awards saw Avenged Sevenfold—AX7 to those in the know—take home the lion’s share of the awards, including Album of the Year.
Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance had a pretty good night at the 2011 Golden God Awards ceremony, which awards top performers in the world of hard rock and heavy metal. They each received the best guitarist award for their work on 2010’s gold album, Nightmare.
Mike Portnoy, the explosive drummer for AX7, took home the best drummer award for his work on the album that shot straight to number 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. It was their first album to hit the top of the chart, which recognized the 163,000 record sales in its opening week.
M. Shadows, Avenged Sevenfold’s front man, took home top vocalist honors. When your guitarists, drummer, and vocalist all win top honors, it’s a foregone conclusion that the next piece of hardware going home with the band from Huntington Beach, California would be the Album of the Year award.
Nightmare, which was certified gold in February for reaching the $1 million in sales plateau, has been a smash hit with new as well as established fans. AX7 is currently on tour in the United States, but will head to Europe in early June after a two-week break. They open in Germany with a three-night stand at Rock am Ring beginning on June 3rd and will wrap in Belgium on June 26th.
Props to AX7 for a wicked-bad album in Nightmare, and for taking home all the hardware at the Golden God Awards!
