After taking a break from the show, dancer Derek Hough will return to Dancing with the Stars!
Dancing with the Stars fans will notice that professional dancer and celebrity instructor Derek Hough is missing from this current season. Rest at ease, Derek lovers – his hiatus will be short lived. Derek plans to return, most likely in the fall, and he’s promising to have some extra sizzle to wow audiences and the judges. He said, “I told the producers I’m going to come back with a few new tricks.”
Derek’s not slacking during this little break. He’s signed on for a film project called Cobu 3D. According to IMDB, the film follows a pair of star-crossed dancers in New York who find themselves at the center of a bitter rivalry between their brothers’ underground dance clubs, and is set for release in 2012. Of the film, Derek told People magazine that he’s had to step out of his comfort zone and try new things:
“I’m learning so much. I’ve been teaching so long and it’s interesting because now I’m like the student. The role I’m playing required me to do things I haven’t done before. I’m doing a lot of tapping, which is interesting because I’m not much of a tapper.”
Fans of DTWS’ other professional dancers can sit back and enjoy this season, as Derek is telling his fellow cast mates that the door is now open for them to win that awesome mirror ball trophy. He recently told Maksim Chmerkovskiy “here you go buddy, now that I’m gone you can have this one.” Derek does have a little room to be cocky – he’s been on the show since 2007, and has won the title three times, which is more than any other professional.
