Food Network celebrity chef Ina Garten denied the request of 6 year old cancer patient Enzo and will not cook a meal with him.
Little 6 year old Enzo loves watching the Barefoot Contessa show on Food Network while resting in bed with his mother. Three years ago, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation wanted to do something nice for him. Because they’re awesome like that, and that’s the kind of stuff they do. Enzo told them that he wanted to cook a meal with celeb chef Ina Garten since he enjoyed her show so much. TMZ is reporting that the Make-A-Wish people approached the chef with the request, and she denied both them and Enzo. Twice. Last year, she was approached and stated she couldn’t accomodate the request due to her book tour. Make-A-Wish asked Enzo if there was another wish they could help him with, and he stated that he wanted to wait until Barefoot Contessa was available. Enzo waited patiently and the chef was again approached this year, but the results were no different. Denied. Apparently, Ina’s schedule is still too busy to accomdate the little boy. This totally gives me a case of the sads. Enzo’s family reports that he is heartbroken, and has asked “Why doesn’t she want to meet me?”
TMZ contacted the people at Make-A-Wish, who backed good friend Ina by saying, “From time to time, planning for wishes doesn’t turn out as originally envisioned, despite people’s best intentions and efforts throughout the wish-granting process.”
Ina’s rep said, “Despite her demanding schedule, [Ina] participates and helps as many organizations as she can throughout the year, helping children and adults like Enzo with life threatening and compromising illnesses. Unfortunately, as much as she would like to, it’s absolutely impossible for her to grant every request she receives.”
Enzo finally decided on a new wish, and is now taking lessons so he can swim with dolphins. Hopefully the playful mammals will be able to fit the little boy into their busy schedules.
