Wyclef Jean shot in hand while in Haiti just before the presidential elections there. Read about it below.
Hip Hop singer Wyclef Jean had tried to run for the president of Haiti following the devastating earthquake that hit the island nation last year. But he was judged to be ineligible because he’s a New Jersey resident. Its not that he’s from New Jersey, but that he doesn’t live in Haiti. So the 37-year-old Grammy winner threw his support behind another musician Michel (Sweet Micky) Martelly.
Just before Haitians started going to the polls to choose their new president, Wyclef Jean claims he was shot in the hand when he stepped out of his car to make a phone call just outside of Port-au-Prince.
There are conflicting stories about the shooting though. Wyclef Jean’s rep says his hand was grazed by a bullet. The police are downplaying the incident saying that he just cut his hand on glass.
Polls closed at 4 p.m. today and the winner of the election will be announced on March 31st. Meanwhile Wyclef Jean was treated and released from a hospital for the minor injury to his hand.
