John Galliano, the former head of the House of Dior has been fired following back-to-back racist rants against fellow patrons of a French bar. The second antisemitic rant was caught on tape. You can watch it below.
John Galliano took over running the House of Christian Dior in 1996. Now the flamboyant 50-year-old has been fired from his position as Dior’s creative director.
In a brief statement, Sidney Toledano, Dior Couture’s chief executive, said he condemned “in the strongest terms” the words and actions of Mr. Galliano, “which are in total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the Christian Dior house.”
He had been suspended on Friday following an amateur video being released on the internet that shows a drunken Galliano verbally insulting fellow patrons of the La Perle Bar in the Marais district of Paris.
In an incident last week he had insulted a couple in the bar, Geraldine Bloch, 35 and Philippe Virgitti, 41. The Asian couple claimed he threatened to kill Philippe Virgitti. He is alleged to have said, ‘Dirty Jewish face, you should be dead’ and ‘F**king Asian bastard, I will kill you.’
Bloch and Virgitti filed charges against Galliano who was called in for questioning and released. He then filed defamation charges against them.
Unfortunately for any chance for him succeeding in his lawsuit, just a week later he was caught on tape making similar remarks to another group in the same bar. This time it was a group of Italian girls who he made the antisemitic remarks to. His is heard on the tape saying ‘I love Hitler’, ‘People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f****** gassed.’
It is a very ugly scene.
Now John Galliano has been fired as chief creative director for Dior and is facing charges of antisemitism, a crime in France that is punishable with up to 6-months in jail.
