Morgan Freeman Dead Hoax is Being Investigated by CNN

Morgan Freeman

The Morgan Freeman dead hoax posted on Twitter purportedly from CNN is not true and CNN is investigating the incident. A tweet came through on Thursday night that appeared to be breaking news from CNN, ‘RT @CNN: Breaking News: actor Morgan Freeman has passed away in his Burbank home.’

The news that Morgan Freeman is dead spread like wild-fire over the internet. CNN made a statement of Twitter that he was NOT dead and in fact alive and well and CNN didn’t report that he was dead. But the death rumors had spread so far so fast that they were hard to stop. The post that originally appeared to be a re-tweet of a CNN breaking news story was re-tweeted and was even picked up and re-tweeted by other news outlets. All of this appeared to have been re-tweeted from a CNN report, but the CNN Twitter page didn’t have the original story.

Finally, CNN did tweet about the Morgan Freeman dead hoax by Tweeting on their site:

CNN did not report Morgan Freeman death. Rumor is false. CNN will aggressively investigate this hoax.

Now Freeman is one of an elite group of famous people who have been the victims of internet death rumors. There was one a while back that Miley Cyrus had died. Others have been Betty White, Russell Crowe, Bill Cosby and probably a whole lot more that I can’t remember.

As of this writing Morgan Freeman is alive and well.
