The date and location have been selected! Prince William and Kate Middleton will be married at Westminster Abbey on Friday, April 29, 2011. The next five months promise to be filled with news stories on such titillating topics as what Kate’s wedding dress will look like, what flavor the wedding cake will be, who will design the dress, who will be the bridesmaids, who will perform the ceremony, and where the happy couple will spend their honeymoon. And regardless of how minor the topics might seem, zealous royalty watchers will eagerly snap up those stories and then ask for more!
Westminster Abbey, you may recall, is where Princess Diana’s funeral was held in 1997. It has also been the venue for other royal weddings in the past.
The princes’ private secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, said the couple had chosen the venue for its “staggering beauty” and that they wanted the day to be a “classic British occasion with good spring weather”.
. . . “They are very much in charge of the arrangements. I have never seen two happier people. They’re on cloud nine, like any other newly engaged couple.”
Millions of people from across Great Britain and beyond are expected to fill the streets of London for the occasion.
