Emma Watson says she was shocked to find out she’s wealthy. The Harry Potter star told British Vogue that she didn’t have any idea how much money she had and lived on a $75 weekly allowance. When she found out she had $32 million she said, ‘I had no idea. I felt sick, very emotional.’
Of all the surprises I’ve had in my life that made me feel sick it was never that I had MORE money than I thought I had. More often my surprises have been the other way around. But this is about Emma Watson who seems like one of the more level-headed, down-to-earth young actresses and certainly one of the most successful.
Watson is a 20-year-old Brown University student who is featured in British Vogue’s December 2010 issue. In the interview she reveals that she has lived on a $75 weekly allowance while her bank account has gotten bigger and bigger.
She told British Vogue she had the ‘money conversation’ with her father when she was about 17 and when she realized by the third or fourth film, the money was starting to get … serious. I had no idea. I felt sick, very emotional. It was a real shock.’ The serious money for Emma Watson is an estimated $32 million.
She says she’s glad she saw through her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise. But as soon as her commitment to that was over she chopped off her hair into the cute pixie cut she’s sporting now.
‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1’ opens on November 19, 2010. The final Harry Potter movie will be released in July 2011.
