Carrie Underwood talks panic attacks in a recent interview with WebMD Magazine. She revealed she used to suffer from panic attacks. Read the details below and see her photos and her music video ‘Just a Dream.’
Carrie Underwood married her Prince Charming on August 10, 2010. She married Canadian ice hockey star Mike Fisher. The newlywed country star also revealed that she used to suffer from panic attacks. She told WebMD Magazine that she had problems with crowded shopping malls and elevators. She also talked about her ideas about food and eating.
The new Mrs. Fisher says that she does all her own grocery shopping and cooks for herself while she is on the road. She says she likes to know what is going into her body. Fast food is an absolute no-no. She says she likes to shop for groceries in empty supermarkets at midnight, admitting that she has had a big problem with personal space. Her ‘personal space’ problems were primarily when she was a teenager growing up in Checotah, Oklahoma. But it would appear that she still prefers not to be in closed in or crowded spaces.
She told the magazine:
I’m a big personal space person. You know, if you go to the restroom, you use the stall that’s not near anybody. Or if you’re in the gym, you go to the treadmill where there’s space in between you. And it seemed like in crowded situations like that, people would just completely violate your personal space.
She revealed in the interview that she still has moments that make her sweat in crowded elevators and crowded shopping malls at Christmas time. She even had a problem just before the interview.
Every floor we stopped on, we’d cram more people in, and by the time we were done, there was just a ton of people. So I start thinking about all the bad things that can happen, and I’m like, ‘I’ve got to get off the elevator, I need to get off the elevator.’ I was just like, ‘No more stops, please, no more stops!’
Carrie Underwood’s panic attacks do not set her apart from most of the population. Anxiety and depression are the most common emotional illnesses in Western society.
