Former NBA legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Jabbar himself disclosed the news on Monday, indicating that he has been undergoing treatment for the serious illness. The NBA legend indicated that the disease is a killer, however noted that his prognosis has been positive so far. He indicated that he is determined to beat the illness.
Jabbar is the NBA's all-time leading scorer. He is well known for being one of the most kind and decent men ever to play in the game and is a well loved and admired figure.
Jabbar hopes to inspire others to seek treatment by making his illness public and to save lives. He hopes that his story will be an inspiration to others. He certainly has all of best wishes and prayers of those readers and writers associated with the Wizbang network.

Ph+ CML... Amazingly treatable with new oral medications, though bone marrow transplants used to be the only way to offer a chance for cure. Here's a disease that used to have a very low 5-year survival rate in most patients, and now is almost 90%!

Of course, this pill is very costly, and I would expect under ObamaCare a review board would examine each case's worthiness before prescription would be approved. Might take a few years for a commoner to go through that process, but unless Jabar is a registered Republican, I think he'd get preferential treatment.

I believe that people who have insurance will get the expensive pills quickly. I've had CML for at least 11 years now, and I certainly never had a problem getting the correct medicines in a timely manner. I also believe the drug companies may help the uninsured to have access to the drugs. Certainly, no one is going to give a darn is someone is a Republican, Democrat or anything like that. mjh
