In 1995 Jill Sobule released a song called "I Kissed a Girl". And unless you live in the earths core you know that last year Katy Perry released a song called "I Kissed a Girl". And my guess is, if you were 10 or older when Jill Sobule's song came out, then you recalled it and noted it the first time you heard Katy Perry's version. But it never really went further than that and I've always wondered why. Why it was never mentioned that this mega hit song was 'done already'. At least in theory.
So for some reason Jill Sobule is speaking out about it now. Sobule told TheRumpus "As a musician I have always refrained from criticizing another artist. I was, 'Well, good for her.' In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995.
"I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don't want to sound bitter or petty, because that's not me.
"Okay, maybe, if I really think about it, there were a few jealous and p***ed off moments.
"So here goes, for the first time in an interview...
"F*** you Katy Perry, you f***ing stupid, maybe 'not good for the gays', title thieving, haven't heard much else, so not quite sure if you're talented, f***ing little slut.

Yeah, Jill, and your "I Kissed a Girl" was a blatant ripoff, musically, of Sheryl Crow's "Leaving Las Vegas". So shut the hell up.
