
The Liberty Media studio has signed up for a modern take on "Hamlet" and attached a slew of big names to pull off the task. "Twilight" and "thirteen" director Catherine Hardwicke is attached to direct, with Emile Hirsch, who helped conceive the idea, attached to star as the title character. Ron Nyswaner ("Philadelphia") will write the script.
- New "Tonight" show host Conan O'Brien got off to a roaring start in his first outing behind the desk vacated by Jay Leno last week after 17 years as America's favorite late night television chat show host. Early viewing numbers show that O'Brien's debut on NBC's "The Tonight Show" on Monday got a 7.1 rating in the nation's biggest media markets and brought in the biggest Monday edition "Tonight" show audience for more than four years.
- "High School Musical" hottie Zac Efron is the latest big celeb to make a cameo on HBO's Hollywood-centric comed, Entourage. Zefron filmed scenes for the show's upcoming sixth season at the Beverly Hills Niketown store on Tuesday morning.
- Speidi's prayers have been answered: The couple, who quit I'm a "Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here" on Tuesday and later prayed on Twitter that they would be allowed to return, will remain on the show, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's rep tells TVGuide.com.
- Jack Nicholson is close to a deal to join James L. Brooks on the helmer's untitled romantic comedy at Columbia Pictures, reports Variety. He would join Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson in the project. Bill Murray had been in talks to play the blueblood father of Rudd's character, but no deal closed.
- MGM has tapped "Shrek The Musical" helmer Jason Moore to turn the classic Nicolas Cage/Deborah Foreman rom-com ''Valley Girl'' into a sing-song feature. No word at all on cast.
- Oscar WInner Javier Bardem ("No Countr for Old Men", "Vicki Christina Barcelona") will join Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf in the "Wall Street" sequel, according to Nikki Fenke.
