- Blockbusters "Twilight" and "Slumdog Millionaire" both garnered nominations in six MTV Movie Award categories, announced today by MTV. The two films are both up for Best Movie, along with "The Dark Knight", "High School Musical 3: Senior Year", and Iron Man. MTV has also added two new categories to the mix: Best Song from a Movie and Best WTF Moment. The show airs live on May 31st at 9pm with host Andy Samberg.
- NBC has picked up pilot "The Community," starring "The Soup's" Joel McHale. Joel stars as a fast-talking lawyer who is forced to go back to community college after his undergraduate degree is revoked. While there, he forms a study group with a bunch of misfits including Chevy Chase. Joel will still remain on The Soup.
- The NBC upfront were Monday. "Life" has been cancelled, "Medium" saved. "Law & Order: SVU" is returning but Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay have threatened to walk if demands aren't met. The fates of "My Name is Earl", "Chuck", and "Law & Order" will be decided on or before May 19.
- Hugh Jackman is attached to "Ghostopolis". The tales about a man who works for the government's Supernatural Immigration Task Force. His job is to send ghosts who have escaped into our world back to Ghostopolis. When a living boy accidentally is sent to the other side, the agent must team with a female ghost to bring him back.
- Ben Stiller will direct "Help Me Spread Goodness", described as a drama with comic overtones. The script, about a Chicago banker who gets swindled in a Nigerian Internet scam, was written by Mark Friedman.
- Jenny McCarthy is poised to become the next star in Oprah Winfrey's media empire. McCarthy has inked a multi-year deal with Winfrey's Harpo Prods. to develop projects on different platforms, including a syndicated talk show that the actress would host.
