Movie and Television News

  • Fox is opting out of airing a President Obama prime-time press conference timed to mark the leader's 100th day in office Wednesday, in favor of its regularly scheduled programing. Fox said it would alert Lie to Me viewers to the press conference with an "onscreen graphic" pointing interested parties to its sister outlets, Fox News Channel.

  • Evan Rachel Wood will guest-star in two episode's of "True Blood". Wood will play the "charming, wily, ruthless and wise" Sophie-Anne, the 500-year-old vampire Queen of Louisiana.

  • Leighton Meester, star of the CW Network's teen drama "Gossip Girl," has signed a deal with Universal Republic through Time-Act Music to release her debut album in the fall. The 23-year-old actress began recording material -- described as having an "electro-pop edge" -- for the project in March.

  • Bill Murray will appear briefly in Columbia Pictures' Zombieland... as a zombie. The Ruben Fleischer-directed horror-comedy stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin.

  • David R. Ellis (Snakes on a Plane) has been hired by former New Line executive Mark Ordesky to direct Humpy Dumpty. The 3-D sci-fi horror film is about a half-human, half-alien creature who embarks on a murderous rampage after his alien mother is abused by two rednecks in the Deep South.

  • A Saoirse Ronan fansite Access-Saoirse has received more scans of photos from Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones that can be found in the new issue of Empire magazine. Opening December 11, the big screen adaptation of Alice Sebold's best-selling novel stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli and Saoirse Ronan.
