A fir tree has been found growing inside a man's lung by surgeons who were operating on him for suspected cancer. The tree, measuring 2 inches, was discovered by Russian doctors when they opened up Artyom Sidorkin, 28, to remove what they thought was a tumour.
Medical staff believe that Mr Sidorkin somehow inhaled a seed, which later sprouted into a small fir tree inside his lung.
The patient had complained of extreme pain in his chest and had been coughing up blood. Doctors were convinced he had cancer. Before removing the major part of the man's lung, the surgeon investigated the tissue taken in a biopsy and found the fir.
They believed the coughing of blood was caused by the tiny pine needles piercing blood capillaries. 'It was very painful. But to be honest I did not feel any foreign object inside me,' said Mr Sidorkin. 'I'm so relieved it's not cancer.'

Wow! Glad to see that Mr. Sidorkin is fine.
(For some reason that song that Kermit the Frog used to sing about "It's not easy being green" was the first thing that came to mind.)

Umm, the x-ray clearly shows a tree. Yet the Russian doctors operated and took out half his lung and only that way found out it wasn't cancer, but a tree? Welcome to socialized medicine!

Who would EVER think that a tree would grow inside a lung? Cancer has many shapes and sizes. The x-ray clearly shows something inside the lung that needs to be removed. Nimrod. Oops.. I mean Ben Pugh. But thank you for your so-called medical advice you right wing nut job. Try paying for that procedure here in the Great USA. You and three generations below you would be in financial dept and living in the poor house. By-the-way... they did say they got it out and the man is doing great. It's sad to see that the Russians have a beter health care plan then we in the USA have. Please... bring on Universal Health Care!!!!! And God Bless Barack Obama!!!!

To the left wing nut job that thinks the Russians have better Medical care at least here in the US I don't think they would have removed half a lung to find out what it was. If we had Universal Health Care he more then likely would be dead before they would have operated. Ask our Friends North of the Border if their health care is all that great. And NO do not God Bless Barack Obama he is no savior!!!! And don't bring on Universal Health Care it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

What I want to know is did he get to keep the tree and plant it? :-) After all we want to be a greener for the enviroment (but I think he took it a little to far).

First of all... to "P". I never said that the Russians have better medical care. I said they have "a better Health Care Plan". But, just like a right wing nut job... They try to take what you say and turn it around ti fit their agenda.... Never has it more obvious how ignorant people like blogger "P" are. Thank God "the people of the United States" spoke out this year by voting for the right man for the job...... finally.
Secondly,
I've been in the Health care industry for 17 years and seen thousands of x-rays, CT-scans, and MRI images and seen plenty that "LOOK LIKE" trees growing. Never a one however was a tree...lol. And yes in most cases the went in and removed it and everything around it. There is a thing called Sepsis... and that is exactly what would've happened if they didn't go in and remove it and everything around it.

Couldn't the "cancer tree" have been removed and the lung left in place?
