It appears that the question of whether the federal government is going to bail out the state of California has been rendered moot. Two large banks have announced that they...

It's 1994. The GOP promised to dismantle social programs, cut taxes and balance the budget. Newt Gingrich massaged the message, and the "Me Generation" bought it hook, line and sinker. This was the new GOP, and they had made...

I speculated recently that the worm may be turning as it relates to the Obama administration's political capital. The near Teflon like protection that a fawning press afforded him is...

Unfortunately the family of Michael Jackson really failed to effectively invest or manage their money very well despite huge success, leaving the family mostly in serious financial straits. There were reports that Michael Jackson might have died with up to...

Another day, another Obama infomercial. President Barack Obama held a townhall style meeting today, one in which the audience was "hand-picked" by White House staffers. It was conveniently "moderated" by...

Unbelievably, the EU commissioners are now moving ahead with plans to impose a new 10% tax on mobility scooters imported into Europe, often manufactured in the United States. But some like physicist Stephen Hawking are angry as this will dramatically...

Playboy Enterprises, like much of the adult entertainment industry had a tough year in 2008. Hef's daughter Christie is quiting as CEO of the company, and they're pulling out of the DVD market. Other DVD companies with harder content than the softcore Playboy stuff have faced some federally inspired obscenity arrests and trials and property seizures by the federal government, as well as declining sales.
This industry was once thought to be recession proof, but the tough economy, free adult content on the Internet, and a bunch of religious right wing federal prosecutors in the Bush Administration have all conspired to badly hurt the adult entertainment business in the last year. A further problem is that getting the required insurance to shoot a film is now more difficult because some insurance companies are not insuring such film productions any longer in the state of California. For this controversial industry, there is a real wealth of endless problems. It's hardly a "Playboy's" life at all. Hef makes it look far easier than it really is.
