- HOLD THE PHONE! MGM has scared up the scripting team of Stiles White and Juliet Snowden ("Boogeyman") to pen its remake of "Poltergeist." Studio's seeking a director for the project.
- Writing has begun for The Hobbit, targeted for a December 2011 release, and its sequel, coming December 2012. Screenwriting team of Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens have joined director Guillermo del Toro to write the screenplays for the two planned movies.
- James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are in negotiations to play the title roles of Gnomeo and Juliet, a CGI-animated Shakespeare adaptation from Miramax and Elton John's Rocket Pictures.
- Eric Stoltz will play the lead role in "Fort McCoy," based on the real-life story of actress/writer Kate Connor's own mother. Michael Worth directs. The movie follows the Stirn family who lived in a cabin between the army base and the Nazi - Japanese P.O.W. Camp during World War II.
- Russell Crowe is developing a movie based on the life of comedian Bill Hicks. The "Gladiator" star would play the funny man.
- Kristen Bell and Rob Thomas (the TV show creator, not the singer) met earlier this week to discuss the possibility of a "Veronica Mars" movie.
