  • NBC tried it in 92', Fox a few years later and now ABC is creating a pilot for a potential "Witches of Eastwick" series. Maggie Friedman ("Dawson's Creek") is set to pen.

  • Tom Cruise is loosely attached to "Food Fight," a warmhearted comedy about a snooty New York chef who is forced to cook meals at a school cafeteria, with Cruise playing the role of the chef. The project is set up at Universal-based Working Title.

  • According to the original Freddy, Robert Englund, Billy Bob Thornton may be taking over for the upcoming "Elm Street" remake. The assumption is he'd play Freddy. Go figure.

  • Zak Penn, who is best known for adapting such comic book properties as The Incredible Hulk and the "X-Men" films for the big screen, is writing and will produce The Argonauts for 20th Century Fox.

  • Producer J.J. Abrams and screenwriter David Seltzer (The Omen) are working together to make a disaster film for Universal involving an earthquake, says The Hollywood Reporter. The trade says the project is untitled and not intended to be a remake of Universal's 1974 movie Earthquake.

  • NBC is developing a half-hour comedy about female tycoons from "Bergdorf Blondes" author Plum Sykes and producer Charlie Corwin. "Mogulettes" will center on jet-setting twentysomething women who have already become captains of industry. Whens that concept gonna get old?
