MTV is developing a remake of 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, reports Variety.

Lou Adler, executive producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.

The new version will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.

The director and casting decisions have yet to be announced. The original starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meatloaf.

so yuck!

Oh what a bad idea this is.... (Below threshold)

Oh what a bad idea this is. As terrible as the original was, it had some quality that at least endeared itself to millions of devoted fans.

Just like the awful Ed Wood films like PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE, THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW had some sort of magic that made it lovable to fans because of it's sheer awfulness as being one of the worst and strangest musicals ever made.

It is nearly impossible ever to recapture this magic. Lightning usually only strikes just once. Look at that awful remake of PSYCHO by Gus Van Sant for example.
