Nickelback Singer Convicted of Drunk Driving

Chad Kroeger, the lead singer for the rock band Nickelback, was convicted of drunk driving in Vancouver on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

The charges stem from an early morning arrest in Surrey, British Columbia on June 22, 2006. Kroeger was pulled over by police for driving his Lamborghini 100 m.p.h. through a residential neighborhood. Police say that Kroeger's eyes appeared red and glossy, and that he handed the officer a credit card when asked for his driver's license.

During the trial, Kroeger's attorney petitioned that the Breathalyzer test - Kroeger blew a .14, almost twice the legal limit of .08 - be thrown out. The judge overruled the motion, and the results were admitted into evidence.

Kroeger was not in court when the verdict was read, but the judge wants him to appear for the May 1 sentencing. He faces a one-year suspension of his license and a $600 fine.
