Scientologists At War with Their Own

scientology1.jpg

Scientologists are at war with a member of their own family - the outspoken niece of the church's powerful leader, David Miscavige.

Jenna Hill Miscavige, 24, the daughter of David's older brother Ron, recently came out in support of Andrew Morton's "Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography," and slammed the star for "supporting a religion that tears apart families, both in the media and monetarily." Since then, Jenna claims she's been subjected to harassment.

"The church has contacted several of my friends, telling them that I am smearing the church and I am going to be declared a suppressive person and asking my friends if they would disconnect from me and, in at least one case, insisting that they do," Jenna, who lives in San Diego, tells investigative journalist Philip Recchia.

Jenna shows the length at which the church will go... "At least eight friends have removed themselves from my MySpace page," she said. It's THAT bad.

Jenna let loose on Scientology last month when she posted an open letter to a senior sect official, which was later posted on the Web, praising the Morton book and slamming the church. Scientology spokeswoman Karin Pouw responded to her: "I am absolutely shocked at how vehemently you insist upon not only denying the truths that have been stated about the church in that biography, but then take it a step further and tell outright lies."

You this this is a joke, to lose lifetime friends because a church put a gun tho their head?:
"Jenna shows the length at which the church will go... "At least eight friends have removed themselves from my MySpace page," she said. It's THAT bad."

Actually it's much worse. She's being watched, standard fare with "Scientology Fair Game". She's being investigated by the church PI's, who are talking to her neighbors, her friends, her employers current and past, and already spreading lies to discredit her, to mock her.
That they will sue her is assured...... they just have to find a good reason. Freedom of speech is not allowed in scientology. Jenna Miscavige Hill is courageous.

Losing 8 friends might not seem like a big deal to some but if to many, losing loved ones through religious shunning is a very painful thing. Scientology specialiozes in this kind of emotional torture.

bgodley:

If all this negativity regarding Scientology, which had included statements from, "for profit enterprise" to "killer organization", were even remotely true than there would be some type of hard evidence. The truth is that there is none because Scientologists and the Church don't have these crimes. They don't steal, they don't twist and defame, and they don't pretend. What they actually do is dedicate much of their time and goodwill to help pull people out of the mud. This extends from the drug treatment programs, to volunteer help at disaster sites and much more. Scientologists are good poeple: educators, lawyers, plumbers and business owners like myself. The "evidence" placed on anti-scientology sites is so full of inuendo, falsities, and religious bigotry that it if of course holds no water and I use the term BIGOTRY in it's fullest sense. No self respecting government official has ever bothered with this information because again it is so twisted and sensationalized.

What also amazes me is the extreme arrogance of detractors, who, though they know little if anything of what Scientology is or does, hold themselves up as experts who "know" what the "evil church" is doing and they are going to "save" others from themselves.

The church organization is itself just made up of regular Scientologists. Many people go on and off staff. So there is no separation from the public of Scientology and the organization itself. They are one in the same. When you attack the organization you attack the common man trying to help out his fellows. When you try and label the organization as evil you are labeling every single Scienotlogist as evil. Again, bigotry in the extreme.

Sure, there are are a VERY small few who have done something in Scientology and are now stating that Scientolgy is doing all these horrible things. But there has never been an organization, religous or not, who has not had it's share of the truly disgruntled. Thankfully, we don't depend upon these few to ever do anything worthwhile or constructive in any of those groups. They are usually outcasts, lonely and sullen. I am sure more people would be willing to try and help them if it weren't for the venom and choas they spread.

There also is this other idea that the copyrighted works of the Church should not be defended from infringement. That they should be allowed to be distributed on the net in any way shape or form as any individual sees fit. Yes, there is freedom of speech in law, but there is also copyrights in law. Freedom of speech does not allow you to steal another man's music or film or personal written ideas. There are many many reasons for this. The Church has every right to defend it's copyrights. Again, it is a basic law of this country. If someone is so willing to dismiss this law, for god knows what purpose, than how do we not know that he doesn't dismiss other laws, like child protection laws, or criminal statutes.

a nonny mouse:

bgodley, you yourself state that you can't really vouch for everything that is or isn't said or done by other scientologists, can you? Please stop always trying to discredit the critics and try thinking about why this is really happening. This isn't really about beliefs, (in reference to your bigotry accusations) but rather the hostile attitude taken towards anyone who says something the CoS doesn't like. Why not learn from the criticism to improve the reputation of the church instead of ALWAYS getting all defensive and making things worse for themselves?
What we are fighting are the disagreeable aspects of the church that are giving the whole thing a bad reputation - not you, not your beliefs. It's unfortunate then that you say the two are inseparable. I've read a few comments from self proclaimed scientologists who say they are fond of scientology, but not so much the actions of the CoS.
What do they mean by this then?

Do you always believe everything the CoS tells you to believe?

Why not look into the things that are upsetting us instead of just writing us all off as hateful bigoted people.

I have to agree with bgodley - it sure is odd that on the internet and in gossip-column tabloid trash media, we find this immense litany of horrors and crimes alleged to have been committed by the Church, and yet nothing EVER comes of these fairy tales in the real world. Where's the outrage? Where's the congressional inquiries? Where's the FBI investigations? If these Scientology haters have succeeded in exposing the truth about an evil cult, why isn't anyone in power listening to them in America? Scientology has to be one of the most scrutinized and distrusted groups around, so if there was ANYTHING to nail them on, it would have happened already.

I'm a Christian not a Scientologist and I wish I could
change this conversation to one about Christianity
but I went to several Scientology web sites
and think that what it has to offer is very much needed in our world.
They do a lot of good
things. I remember reading something in the Katrina news too
about Scientology crews there and John Travolta going around in
a boat to help. I have a lot of respect for John Travolta and
personally am moved by Tom Cruz's passion for what he believes
in. I did notice that no matter how angry they become in their
subject of passion, they don't lower themselves to the level you
have permitted yourselves to sink. But then that is likely normal
ops for you in daily life. You guys are a bunch of bored
computer nerds with too much time on your hands. I don't care
how far fetched a religion seems or how passionate the
members. But what I read so far was positive and actually quiet
admirable. I found a personality test on one of the sites. I'm
tired tonight but I'm going to take it tomorrow. Interesting. Back
off and get a life okay

Curiouser:

When you know the truth about Scientology from being in the organization and I am a sceptical person and have looked at a large number of these sites which contain so much bad information about Scientology and know that it it not true and belies in no small way hatred of an organization that helps. In Scientology one gets an understanding of how people think and how they can be helped and how great things can be achieved. I agree it is not like Christianity which by the way I also embrace and even more than before as Scientology not only doesn't disagree with it but actually has shown me how important the teachings of the Bible are. You will find a few Christians attacking Scientology because it isn't Christian as they do with any religion not Christian, but mostly the people who are attacking it are not religious and they are attacking Scientology with twisted lies by which I mean they are based on very little truth and they do not have good intentions. I grant there are a few good intentioned people who even state they don't disagree with Scientology who have noble intentions. To these people I say don't be so trusting of whatever you find on the internet as you know the internet is full of lies, and find out what the truth is for yourself. Scientologist are using Scientology to help a lot of people and they are making a difference.

Nice diversion/distraction ... (Below threshold)
a nonny mouse:

Nice diversion/distraction tactic bgodly and nutcup. We can go on and on about the misdeeds of the CoS but it would be pointless since you've been programmed to believe that anyone who speaks against the CoS are lying criminals and over the years we have come to the same conclusion about the CoS. There are many others who have already provided some well documented cases of CoS misdeeds here and all around the net. Enjoy.
But why not actually address the issue at hand? Why would Jenna Miscavige choose to speak out against the church if there wasn't something wrong with the CoS? Or maybe enlighten us about CoS family values in general. Like, why one of Hubbard's sons, Ron Jr., would speak out publicly against him and another, Quentin, felt the need to resort to suicide in order to escape his control? Why would Hubbard leave his own wife to rot in jail after operation snow white? What was up with his polygamous marriages? Some of this could very well indeed be "sensationalized," but ALL of it?
What about TIME Magazine's cover story that they fought so long to publish due to having to fend off baseless libel suits?

Cover Story: The Thriving Cult of Greed and Power
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,972865,00.html

Oh yeah, real "gossip-column tabloid trash media"! Go ahead, try to discredit award winning journalist, Richard Behar. Will you try and have us believe that TIME and FORBES would have a poorly qualified journalist on their staff? Sorry, but I can't help but believe him when he said the church survives by ''intimidating members and critics in a Mafia-like manner,'' especially when so much evidence shows that to be true.
So, can we count on another of your "SP handling" cookie-cutter style retorts? Or, are you actually going to address some of our real concerns?

I mean REALLY people, what's more likely? ONE big liar - the CoS, or EVERYBODY else is lying?

Random Comment #23e:

$cientology reminds me of high school when my buddies and I would get bored and do stupid little experiments. Sometimes they were simple little things like going to the mall then gather around at some random moment to look at a spot on the floor. Soon people would start walking up to see what we were looking at, then a small crowd would form - then we'd walk away and see how long it would take for the crowd to disperse. One time we made up a religion but then got a little carried away trying to top each other on what we could get people to believe - we had to stop cuz it was getting mean. Good lord, we were idiots...
we never even thought to make money off it!

Is it possible hubbard just "left his body" before he got a chance to call off the experiment something?

What if hubbard was trying to stop the experiment, so then the people making money off it kept him out of the public for the last 5 or 6yrs of his life? Then they injected him with anti-psychotics before he "abandoned his physical form" so they could attempt to discredit him just in case he'd gotten through to somebody.

Howz THAT for a craaaazy conspiracy theory?

In my hindsight opinion, after being now 3 years OUT after being 27 years IN, I was a lifetime Scientology staff member from 1975-2003, today I'd say the people in Scientology are good people. The ideas are the problem. L. Ron Hubbard's extensive penalty system, the Hubbard system/doctrines/dogma, there is a good amount of bad ideas, and Hubbard's system keeps the members stuck doing things that are bad for themselves and their family members who criticize the Hubbard bad ideas. People okay, the ideas, bad. People get locked in the relgious unchallengeable ethics/penalty Hubbard/Scientology system (Tom Cruise's mutterings about "SPs", "suppressive persons") are what makes Scientologists make their own enemies. It all goes back to Hubbard's unchallengeable bad ideas, using the religion cover its own ass setup! My advice today, "Quit fast." Hubbard allowed people to "Quit Fast". Take Hubbard's option, and quit fast. Chuck Beatty, ex Scientology staffer, 1975-2003, Pittsburgh, USA PS: Mike Rinder, former top Scientology spokesperson for over a decade, quit in summer 2007. Advice to Scientology staff: Get out, like Mike Rinder did!
