Lock of Lennon's Hair Sells at Auction

85ms1fr.jpg

A lock of John Lennon's hair sold for $48,000 last week at Gorringes, an auction house just outside of London.

The hair from the former Beatle was tucked inside one of Lennon's books, A Spaniard In The Works, and was inscribed "To Betty, Lots of Love and Hair, John Lennon XX." The seller, Betty Glasgow, was the band's hairdresser in the '60s. She expected to make only about $5,000 on the auction sale.

"It was great fun working with the boys on the films," said Glasgow. "They were always together in a group and having a laugh. My job was to keep their hair in order as the film was made over three months, so their trademark mop-top haircuts had to be regularly trimmed." Glasgow worked on the set of a range of Beatles films, from Help to A Hard Day's Night.
