Musician Ani DiFranco poses for a portrait at her home in New Orleans Dec. 30, 2003. DiFranco announced she's pregnant while being honored for her contributions to the feminist movement at the National Organization for Women's 40th annual convention. The 35-year-old singer said Friday July 21, 2006 she is due in February. The baby's father, Mike Napolitano, produced her upcoming album "Reprieve."NOW presented DiFranco with the Woman of Courage award.
Latifa Lyles, NOW's vice president of membership, presented the award and called Difranco an inspiration, not only for her music but for her independent ideals. DiFranco founded her own record label, Righteous Babe, in 1990 after becoming frustrated with other music labels.
Past recipients of the annual award include Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and playwright Eve Ensler. Difranco, a Buffalo native, is the first musician to receive the honor.
"Reprieve," a collection of a dozen songs and spoken-word pieces, will be released next month. It will be Difranco's 18th full-length album since her debut was released in 1990.

Was this a "turkey baster" situation or did she get preggers the old fashion way...ya know, male/female unprotected sex, because if it's the latter she was obviously RAPED by her employer since the guy was producing her record and should sue him for sexual herassment!

Did the NOW people congratulate her or yell 'Get an abortion.'? If she wants to represent NOW she needs to vacuum that uterus.
Taz is right on the rape possibility.

If you like Ani DiFranco, you'll LOVE Abigail Kiser. She's a new young artist from Chantilly, Virginia, who's just been signed to my indie label, New Indie Artists. She writes her own music and poems, plays guitar, and sings. She's an 18 year old beatnik queen, and you'll love her stuff.

CONGRATS!!! how wonderful...I always thought that people over produce and that should be stopped. I also realized that if the righteous babes didn't reproduce well that would be ending the struggle for the future. I can only imagine how loved and confortable your baby will be with you as it's mother, and that sort is in dire need always!

seriously, anyone who saw her last show at the capitol center in concord, nh when she was pregnant knows what I'm talking about. I have her recorded on my cell phone giggling and laughing. She said "I love my baby, and I love my baby's daddy." She hasn't lost what she stands for. She's fighting for it against pretentious assholes who think it's just about bashing the mainstream, not finding happiness.
