Chris Daughtry will get an offer tonight to front a famous band. It will unfold on the television show 'EXTRA.'
Members of the band will appear on the 'EXTRA' set to make the offer.
In a stunning turn of events, Daughtry, who was the odds-on favorite to win the 'American Idol' competition, was booted last night.
Daughtry will appear on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM radio show in Los Angeles this morning, where the 'A.I.' host, who is in on the secret, will urge the singer to watch 'EXTRA' tonight.
TMZ knows the name of the band, but we're sworn to secrecy. But trust us, it's a big deal. Watch 'EXTRA' tonight.
UPDATE: Defamer Weighs in.. and even my mad crush on Mark Lasanti can make me understand how Sugar Ray can be referred to as a 'major band.' And even though the commenting mases seem to agree it would be 'cool' if the AI castoff joined Creed or Fuel or some ballad producing cookie cutter band.. I gotta say, I wouldn't know the difference if you pointed it out to me...

The NY Times previously reported that Fuel was already auditioning for a lead singer and had expressed interest after Daughtry covered their song "Hemorrhage (in My Hands)," leading to a huge increase in sales for the six-year-old single. But we hardly think Fuel qualifies as a big deal. No, we think the mystery band is none other than Sugar Ray, who have been searching for a charismatic, handsome new frontman ever since their last one decided to ditch them to do his best Mary Hart impression reading TelePrompters on Extra. And even though their reggae-light pop stylings may never fulfill the hardcore groupie visions dancing in the rocker's head since he made it to the semi-finals, there should be more than enough fans of "When It's Over" and "Fly" lingering outside the dressing room door to justify leaving his wife.

I just hope it's not an older dying band trying to revive their career. Chris has enough media exposure to do just fine on his own. I'm proud to know he's from NC too. (on a side note: Kelly Pickler was on local TV here. She went the "Hilton" route and cut her hair short)

If you like them, then buy the freakin Alter Bridge CD. They are all the Creeds guys with a new singer. It is a great album.

It CAN'T be Sugar Ray. Ryan said this morning that it was:
- a MAJOR band
- a band that he knows Chris LOVES
- one band that sticks out in his mind as a perfect fit for Chris
- thinks Chris would be very happy to get the offer
- the band is a household name with a huge following
- Chris admires them
I seriously doubt all of that points to Sugar Ray. I'm thinking it's more likely that it is Fuel... but that's kinda old news now, so I really don't know. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Ed isn't leaving Live -- it's pretty much his band. Creed is dead and over, with the remaining members doing a much better project with Alter Bridge. And, Sugar Ray... who?
It's gotta be Fuel. The rumor a few weeks back was that they made him an offer to replace Brett Scallions. Chris allegedly turned them down (again, part of the rumor).
That, or it's been the plan for him to join Fuel all along, with the Idol producers wanting to keep it quiet in order to not overshadow AI stuff until Chris either won or got eliminated from the show.
As much as I'm p*ssed off at the AI voters right now, it's probably the best thing to happen to him in the long-term view. He got tons of media exposure and doesn't have to carry the albatross of being "THE American Idol" with him for the rest of his career. Solo or banded, he's got a sweet deal and years of doing his dream full-time ahead of him.
