My wife and I sat around this week debating what Queen songs the various American Idol kids will do next week, and we came up with a list that we think they *should* do. Here's what we'd like to see:
Chris Daughtry: "I Want It All." It's the perfect song to let his strong, rock voice shine while still being far enough away from his alt.rock comfort zone to impress people. Plus it has some great power moments. Secondary choice: "Another One Bites The Dust," re-arranged to have the first verse, then straight to the big run in the third chorus after the bridge.
Taylor Hicks: "One Vision" - It has that up-tempo spastic quality that will let him get the arms flapping, although I suspect the producers are trying to ride herd on him way too much and won't let it happen. Secondary choice: "A Kind of Magic" if no one else picks it.
Elliot Yamin: Throw a rock at a list. He might actually finally do well, a lot of Queen songs are up his alley. I think he'd love "A Kind of Magic," or maybe "Killer Queen." He could also do justice to "The Great Pretender" or "I'm Going Slightly Mad."
Bucky Covington: "Breakthru." It was hard to pick for him, not many of Queen's songs work for that growl thing he's so fond of doing. Secondary choice: "One Vision" if Taylor doesn't snag it.
Katherine McPhee: "The Show Must Go On." Starts out slinky with a lot of color, then has a huge power moment that sounds like it would fit her voice perfectly. And yes, I have McPheever. That girl is teh hawtz0rz.
Ace Young: "Somebody To Love." It's the perfect slightly cheesy, falsetto-filled, Ace, lovey, "stare at the camera" song. He loves those songs that he can fill with his put-on "I need your love, girls" longing.
Kellie Pickler: While I'd like to see the irony of her doing "The Great Pretender," she'll be drawn to sing "You're My Best Friend." It's safe, easy to sing, and she'll love that thematically, it reinforces her innocent down-home-charm image.
Paris Bennett: Maybe "We are The Champions." Big vocal. She's only good when she's belting. While I don't see the producers letting anyone do it, "Bicycle Race" wouldn't be a bad choice.
Let's just pray that no one tries "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "Under Pressure." Some things are meant to be sacred, Constantine Maroulis notwithstanding. Lastly, I don't know who could or would sing it, but wouldn't it be awesomne to see someone try "Fat Bottomed Girls?" :)

Sadly, the rumor is that Pickle might try to do Bohemian Rhapsody. I personlly think anyone trying to top Constantine Maroulis from last season is a dumb! thing. But what do I know. I just wante Kellie to go home.

No one should attempt BoRhap!!!There is no one that could even remotely come close to Constantine's BoRhap from last year. He blew the competition away!!! Anyone who sings that song will be buying a ticket home.

One of the first thoughts to pop into my head when I heard Idol would feature Queen music this week was, "OMG! I will fall off the sofa if someone sings Fat Bottomed Girls!" My second thought was, "I hope they will leave Bohemian Rhapsody alone." Seriously, Constantine did a great job with it last season, but his version is too fresh in viewers' minds I think. And I have heard so many BAD versions, I don't know if I can bear to watch another. Like you said, JimK, some things are meant to be sacred. With a song list this size to choose from, there is bound to be something to fit every voice without going there. *keeping fingers crossed that the rumor Rori heard is completely false*

No one should attempt Bo Rhap again. Constantine changed the face of American Idol with his brilliant, blow the roof off, rendition of this song. It made history and will forever be etched in my mind as the best performance ever to come out all seasons combined on Idol. I take it that you are complimenting him as well.

If Mandisa would have stayed, Fat Bottom Girls would have been a great number for her.

I liked how they were all voted out and Freddie Mercury voted in, posthumously -- and he's not even American!
